I. Membership and Accommodations
1. a) Family Membership
A family membership consists married couple and any unmarried children, living at home, under the age of 22.
b) Couple Membership
c) Single Membership
d) Junior Membership
e) Special Single Membership – Dependent Parent, Mother’s Helper. Special Single Memberships are available only as part of a basic family or couple membership and are limited to one per basic membership. Special Single Memberships are NOT entitled to car passes or free guest tickets.
Please note: To determine age for purpose of the Junior Membership, the age as of June 1st, is used.
The membership above admit to privileges of the Club only the persons in whose name the membership is registered.
2. All Club memberships are issued for and limited to the current season which extends in each year from Memorial Day (through Labor Day) and are non-assignable.
3. No cabana may be sublet.
4. Bath cabin owners are responsible for the bath cabin payment
5. Partners in Cabanas are not automatically entitled to ownership of the Cabana if the owner resigns. The Cabana is resigned at Management’s discretion.
6. Members are required to identify themselves at the Club gate and elsewhere on request, by showing the identification symbols issued to them.
7. Children of a member or guest who are under the age of 16 will not be admitted to the Club unless accompanied by a member or by previous arrangements with Management. After dark, no child of a member or guest under 18 years of age will be allowed to stay on the premises unless under the supervision of one of their parents.
8. THE CLUB CLOSES NIGHTLY AT THE HOUR FIXED BY MANAGEMENT (11:00 PM SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY – 1:00 AM FRIDAY AND SATURDAY). NO ONE IS PERMITTED ON THE PROPERTY AFTER CLOSING TIME. SLEEPING OR STAYING OVERNIGHT IN ACCOMMODATIONS IS FORBIDDEN.
9. Cabanas, bath cabins, and other accommodations are rented solely for the use and enjoyment of the persons to whom leased and their guests. Use for dwelling or residential purpose is prohibited.
10. All fees, rentals, and other charges are payable on demand, except as otherwise agreed in writing default in payment shall, at the option of management, automatically terminate membership and all privileges, including access to the Club and use of any of its facilities by the delinquent member, his family and guests, until payment is made.
11. The Members’ Governing Committee reserves the right to suspend or expel any member for conduct which in its opinion is prejudicial to the best interest of the Club. Such members shall have the privilege of appearing before the Members’ Governing Committee before any such action is taken. (Exception – See paragraph IX VANDALIZING)
12. The Sun and Surf Beach Club does not and shall not have any liability or responsibility for members and their guest’s personal property, including vehicles and their contents as well as cabana awnings and drops and custom overhangs between cabanas.
13. Bath and Shower Cabin Members should make arrangements in advance with their cabin attendants regarding set-up of chairs and umbrellas. In the event your plans do change, a phone number will be posted in order to call and speak with the cabin attendants. Cabin attendants have many accommodations to handle so please limit what you bring to the beach to essential chairs and umbrellas only.
II. Entrance and Parking
1. All members must present their cards (physically handing them to the gate attendant) each time he or she enters the Club. The cards are NOT transferable. Cards in unauthorized hands will be forfeited.
2. The Club Gate is in operation daily commencing Memorial Day weekend through the Sunday following Labor Day. During this time, all members and their guests will need identification symbols or guest tickets to enter the Club premises.
3. After Memorial Day, members without proper identification must pay the guest fee, which will be credited to the members’ open account provided that application for such credit is made immediately after entering the Club at the East Entrance Bookkeeping Office. The Guest Ticket will not be accepted for credit after the date issued. Members who habitually forget their passes will be charged a non-refundable guest fee.
4. Car decals will be issued to paid-up members, on the basis of one for each single membership and two for a family or couple membership. Cars will not be admitted on club grounds without a parking decal. The decal should be affixed permanently to the driver’s side rear window. It should be visible at all times.
5. Car decals must be used on Fridays, weekends, holidays and holiday eves. All other cars entering on weekends and holidays will be charged a fee to park.
6. Speed limits posed on Club premises must be observed. Speeding on Club premises is prohibited. In using the parking facilities, each member assumes all risk of loss or damage to person or property.
7. Parking is available to members on first come first serve basis. There are no reserved spaces. Members are urged to park as closely as possible to the adjacent car in the lot. Instructions of parking lot attendants must be obeyed.
III. Guests
1. Each member has the privilege of introducing guests under the following conditions:
To be admitted, guests must on all occasions be accompanied by a member or called in by a member.
Guest fees are as promulgated.
Host Member shall be responsible for the conduct and charges of the guest and for any loss or damage to Club Property incurred by them.
Guests may not introduce other guests.
2. The purchase of Guest books is available solely to Adult Members at the East Office. Each member must show his or her membership card at the time of transaction.
Presently, there is no limit to the number of guest books available for purchase—however, a record of each transaction will be maintained and if the number of purchased guest books becomes unreasonable, the privileges may be denied to the individual member involved.
Guest Books are not a substitute for membership.
No guest may be introduced more than six times in a single season.
Any unused tickets of Guest Books purchased this year may be used in the following year.
3. Gate procedure requires all cars to come to a full stop at each time of entry. Guests and members must hand identification to gate attendants prior to entrance. Gate entrance procedures are in effect at all times. There will be a charge for guests at all times. Cash, credit, or valid guest coupons are accepted.
4. There is no guest re-entry. Once a guest enters the club, he/she is welcome for the day, and all exits are final.
IV. Safety and Health
1. Swimming in the bay-inlet area is strictly prohibited. Rip currents create extremely dangerous swimming conditions. Surf boards, boogie boards, paddle boards, inflatables, kayaks, rafts, canoes, or any water craft are also prohibited. No parties, smoking, vaping BBQing or kite flying on the bay beach area.
2. Bathing in unprotected areas and swimming after dark are particularly dangerous activities and are therefore strictly prohibited.
3. No ball playing, pranks, boisterous or improper behavior will be allowed in the ocean, bathing beach, or pool areas. All inflatable (rafts, mattresses, tubes, etc.) are prohibited by the New York State Health Codes and are therefore forbidden. No ball playing, kite flying, or game activities which interfere with the enjoyment of others are allowed on the beach or in the Cabana courts.
4. Kiddie pools are restricted from Club grounds.
5. Fireworks, firearms, skateboards, pet animals, or birds are prohibited on the Club premises.
6. Private cabanas are rented for the use of the lessees and members may not trespass upon the privacy of adjoining accommodations. The sidewalks, paths and passageways shall not be obstructed by members or guests or used for any purpose except ingress or egress.
7. Bicycles, hoverboards, roller skates, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters or any rolling toys or compact wheel devices (e.g. Big Wheels) are inherently dangerous in close quarters. Consequently, bicycles must be walked within the club grounds and rolling toys and all other wheel devices are prohibited on the Club walkways and grounds.
8. Umbrellas, on windy days, can become dangerous missiles. Consequently, Management reserves the right to order the closing and/or taking down of any umbrellas when it feels wind conditions are such that a danger exists.
9. Anyone claiming to have had an accident anywhere on the Club property must report the circumstance promptly to Management.
10. Baggage dollies are not to be used by any children. Each member shall be responsible for any damage done to Club property by his minor children.
11. Surfing is not permitted.
12. Washrooms are not to be used for washing of clothes, paint brushes, dishes, or other utensils.
13. Parents must accompany small children to washrooms.
14. The terrazzo platform in front of the Clubhouse shall be used for entrance and exit purpose only.
15. No Barbecuing on decks, breezeways, or court areas. Barbecuing is limited to areas designated by Management.
16. Appliances are not permitted to be used on decks, breezeways, court or sand areas. In cabanas only.
17. Propane lanterns and gas barbecues are strictly prohibited.
18. Nassau Country Smoking Law prohibits smoking in all public buildings. No smoking or vaping is allowed inside accommodations, restrooms the café, bar , restaurant or any indoor areas. Please refrain from smoking or vaping in court and beach areas where there are adults and children present.
19. No drones, or any radio controlled cars, planes or vehicles are permitted on the property at any time.
20. No hoverboards, roller skates, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters or any compact wheel devices are permitted on any club walkways, parking areas or anywhere on club property.
21. Management, bar and restaurant personnel reserve the right to refuse bar service to anyone they feel is intoxicated.
22. No one under 21 years of age is permitted in the bar. A driver’s license along with Sun and Surf Membership Card are the only identification which will be accepted.
23. Garden hoses are no longer permitted in the Cabana courts.
24. Keep off any and all Lifeguard Stands, day or night.
25. Any toys left in the sand will be discarded.
26. Kite flying is not permitted.
27. All drops must stay raised except during inclement weather, Management will be the arbitrator of what constitutes inclement weather
V. Club Personnel
1. Cabana personnel are hired to make your summer more comfortable and enjoyable. Generally, they are hired to keep the exterior area near your accommodation neat and clean, to remove trash and garbage, to open your accommodation when, and as directed, and to set out furniture, etc. in the location which you indicate. Additionally, members may request other service from these employees; bearing in mind that these boys and girls work on the basis of tips.
Normally, a tip of $30.00 per week per family per cabana and cabin is considered adequate. However, if your requirements for the cabin or cabana personnel are extraordinary, an amount in addition to this base would seem appropriate. It should also be borne in mind that on many occasions because of inclement weather or other plans on part of members, they are not at the Club on the day which they would normally render their gratuity. Members should remember that they should make up for any weeks on the next occasion for tipping.
2. Lifeguards/First Aid are hired by the Club for you and your children’s protection. Additional to their lifesaving duty, they are trained in First-Aid procedures and one guard is always on duty at the First-Aid station located adjacent to the Clubhouse.
The Head Lifeguard has absolute discretion in matters of interpretation of the rules for swimming in the pool or ocean. Additionally, it is the Head Lifeguard’s duty to determine whether or not conditions permit swimming in the ocean at any time. It is imperative that members and their children obey the instruction of lifeguards at all times.
3. Carpenters and maintenance employees are NOT authorized to perform any services without a work request from the office.
VI. Credit Card or Cash
If a member utilizes the credit card privilege for food and beverage purposes and at the same time tips with cash or pays with cash, this must be written on the check to avoid confusion when preparing bills.

VII. General
1. The Club rents its facilities for the period from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year. All members are required to vacate their cabanas or bath cabins, and remove their belongings, no later than the Sunday after Labor Day. Any present member who applies for membership for the next season and whose application is accepted may make arrangements to leave furniture and equipment on the premises over the winter, but at the sole risk of such person, as the club will take no such responsibility for such property.
2. The Club provides a No. 22 Lock for Cabanas. Should you wish greater security than this lock provides, you may purchase your own. However, should you wish our cabana personnel to be able to gain entrance while you are at the Club, you will have to make arrangements to provide the cabana boy/girl with a duplicate key or a copy of the combination. Private locks may not be left on accommodations after September 15, as the plumbers must enter each cabana in the fall and spring in order to turn the water on and off.
3. The Club rents its accommodations on an as-is basis. Interior decoration of any kind, including painting, is the responsibility of the member. Sinks are not provided or maintained by the Club. No variation of exterior painting is permitted.
4. Bath Cabin members must label all pieces of furniture and equipment with accommodation number prominently using water proof markers. Use cabin service at your own risk.
5. There will be a charge imposed for any check which is returned to us by our bank.
6. Electricity—The club imposes no additional charge on cabana renters for the electricity that they use. Each Cabana is allotted 15 amperes which provides for use of appliances of approximately 1,725 watts. However, it should be borne in mind that sometimes the refrigerators which are in use in the Club draw a substantial amount of current when the compressor motor starts and this may cause the fuse/circuit breaker to blow when other appliances are in use and the refrigerator starts, The Club will be glad to test your refrigerator for current load should you have trouble with constant circuit breaker overload. However, we are not in a position to attempt repairs on defective appliances of any kind.
ANY ILLEGAL OR DANGEROUS WIRING WILL BE REMOVED
7. Disrobing on the beach or in Rest Rooms is prohibited.
8. The use of accommodations for the selling of merchandise or service is prohibited.
9. Tennis regulations are promulgated and enforced by the Tennis Pro and the Tennis Committee. A separate memorandum concerning the current Tennis Rules and Regulations is published at the start of the season.
10. Speakers, Radios, iPods, TVs or musical instruments must not be played so loudly as to annoy other members.
11. No clothing or other material shall be hung on external cabana railings.
12. Complaints as to any activity after 10:00 p.m. in any cabin or cabana, if found true, will be referred to the Members’ Governing Committee for disciplinary action.
13. Disturbing or noisy conduct on any part of the Club premises at any time is prohibited.
14. No open or other hazardous fires will be permitted in and around cabanas, cabins, cabana courts, beaches or elsewhere on Club premises.
15. Liquor or six-packs of beer properly wrapped, may be taken to members’ accommodations; otherwise, no kegs, cases or cartons of beer or liquor may be brought into the club premises.
16. Picnic tables are set out by the Club for the convenience and enjoyment of ALL. Picnic tables may not be monopolized by any one group of individuals nor may they be removed from their location.
17. Cabana Furniture (Porch Furniture) may not be placed in the sand area in front of cabanas.
18. Hammocks and tents are prohibited at the Club
19. In order to ensure the quiet enjoyment of the Club facilities by all members, demonstrations of any kind including flags, banners, music or any other activity which impinges on the serenity of others is strictly prohibited. This prohibition does not make any judgment as to the worthiness or appropriateness of any activity as described above rather, it merely disallows such action on the Club property.
VIII. Dress Code
1. GENERAL:
The Dress Code is in the best interest of the membership.
Membership in the Sun and Surf Beach Club represents an individual investment in social life and standards. Dress and other regulations are promulgated to protect that investment.
It is not the intention of the Management to impose a rigid or Hardnosed social restriction that spoils a member’s freedom but a minimum of decorum and dress is for everyone’s pleasure and benefit.
2. SPECIFICS:
3. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holiday Eves, gentlemen are required to wear SPORT SHIRTS WITH A COLLAR AND DRESS SHORTS as a minimum requirement for entrance to the Bar-Cocktail Lounge.
4. Bathing or athletic attire, with tops and shoes, may be worn in the cocktail lounge and clubhouse until eight (8:00 p.m.); in the cafeteria until it closes. In the Dining Room casual informal wear is permitted for luncheon except during special social affairs. Evenings, gentlemen are required to wear collared shirts and dress slacks in the dining room and ladies are requested to dress within the spirit of the rules for men. No blue jeans or sneakers in the dining room.
5. NO CUT-OFF JEANS OR T-SHIRTS ARE PERMITTED IN THE PUBLIC ROOM AFTER 8:00 P.M.
6. Sneakers as footwear are not encouraged after 8:00 p.m. in the Bar, Cocktail Lounge, or Dining Rooms.
7. No one under 21 is permitted in the BAR at any time.
IX. Vandalizing
One of the most serious offenses against the general welfare, investment by and cost to the membership and the Club is the tendency on the part of some to damage and destroy wantonly the property of others.
Punishment for wanton of childish vandalism will be severe. Vandalizing of the Club or member’s property will be grounds for instant dismissal of the culprit plus his or her family from membership, loss of accommodation for the balance of the season, without refund and possible refusal of membership in the future.
In addition, vandalism will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
A hearing by the Members’ Governing Committee is the right of every member and the Management will also take the above immediate steps prior to and pending a hearing.
Members must remind their children not to encourage outsiders to enter the Club property without proper guest procedures and Management hereby advises that member’s guests are the responsibility of the introducing member.
TERN/PIPING PLOVER NESTING AREA: Certain areas within and adjacent to the Club ground has been declared Bird Nesting Areas by the Town of Hempstead. It is against the law to disturb the nests of the endangered species in any way. Fines up to $10,000 for disturbing and $20,000 plus a year in jail for killing endangered species are presently on the books. Please be aware and make your children aware of these areas and their inhabitants and notify the office if you encounter a sick or injured bird.

Telephones: The Club has no paging service. So if it is necessary for you to be contacted, you may want to make arrangements with the Telephone Co. to install a phone in your cabana.
FREE GUEST DAYS
Each year, certain days in July and August which do not conflict with the 4th of July Holiday will be designated as Free Guest Days. On these days members may use free Guest day passes issued to them for free Guest entry into the Club. If you run out of Free Guest passes Guests will pay full price .
